Jean-Paul Gourevitch: increase in immigration, and growth of Islam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaxJ8qsYm4A&feature=player_embedded #!

The Muslim community, including children, representing approximately 7 million people must be stopped because of laziness or facility harping that there are 5 million Muslims in France as if the Muslim population had not changed in twelve years. While these two communities are not homothetic. There are Muslims who are not immigrants and immigrants who are not Muslims. But today almost three-quarters of the population of foreign origin are originating directly or indirectly from the African continent that is to say Islamic Maghreb which is more than 95% or SSA where those who come to France are mostly Muslims. Now this population is steadily increasing due to net migration of legal immigration by about 125,000 people and a very important differential fertility especially among women from sub-Saharan Africa where they reached peaks 4, 8 and where the demographic transition is slow to produce its effects.

deficit of immigration:
On the second point, the accounts of immigration are not balanced. While migration does not reduce their economic aspect but the deficit Annual immigration is 30.4 billion euros , and if we add one of expatriation, 7.9 billion euros, we arrive at a deficit of migration policy of 38.3 billion EUR 2 percentage points of GDP. It's a given that in itself is not tragic because it costs the disability, dependency it costs, Social Security, and it costs our system is based on solidarity. This is not a reason not to try to reduce this deficit. Only here

taboo against which we must ignite backfires. Some of you have probably read in Courrier International in popular newspapers, blogs, or heard on radio that a team from the University of Lille concluded it at a profit of 12 billion. Except that this team from census figures which only lists those who have been willing or able to be enrolled, data from 2005 and an average unemployment rate for the population of 5, 94% well below the current figures, takes into account neither irregular migration or structural costs, or societal and fiscal costs of the informal economy, fraud, counterfeiting, illegal labor, prostitution, aid associations, or costs safe and forget even the added value of immigrants to the GDP of France. But when we want to hear or to read reports that immigration does it cost, while work at the University of Lille, as explained in its title, relates only to the accounts of social protection and not those of immigration, we will not bother with those details.

The capacity of Muslim places of worship:
The third and final point, and here I am going to cringe and a few ears warm, say about 7 million Muslims, 5 million over 18 years. Assuming that only 30% of these Muslims is 1.5 million practice Friday prayers. There, according to statistics from 1600 and 2200 places of Muslim worship in France who are a little less than 300,000 square meters which is 5 per square meter Muslims. You see the difficulty to practice his religion within his place of worship. I know how these data can be manipulated and they have been generating excesses and provocations but we must look at things in the face. The question is being debated and to which I am careful not to formulate a response is how a country that wants or says secular can cope with the constant growth, structural and inevitability of this population which a party seeks to assert a visible and sometimes provocative identity.

Jean-Paul Gourevitch joins us these figures, which complement its intervention.

In 1968 the French population was 49,700,000 inhabitants. Muslims in France were 610,000 or 1.23% of the population. In 1988, the population French was 56 million inhabitants. Muslims in France were 2,000,000 or 3.6% of the population. In 2009 the French population of 62 million inhabitants. Muslims in France are 6,000,000 or 9.7% of the population. Using the same growth as every 20 years the Muslim population is multiplied by 3, it is likely that in 2030 the French population will be 68 million inhabitants. Muslims in France will then be 18 million or 26.5%.
